By this point you’ve probably heard about Fly Playa, but what do you actually know about Fly Playa?
Let’s start from the beginning:
Starting July 1, 2017, Fly Playa officially started operations
in the beautiful coastal town of Playa del Carmen!

As a result, the options for great Playa del Carmen excursions now include aerial tours of Mayan ruins such as Chichen Itza and Tulum, scenic flights over places like Sian Ka’an and Cozumel as well as charter flights to Holbox and Merida, among others.

As Fly Playa is new in town, we thought you might like to know a little more about our company and our experience.

Let’s go through the 5 W’s: who, what, when, where, and why.

About Fly Playa - Who Are We?

Fly Playa Guide at Chichen Itza MexicoIn reality, Fly Playa is an extension of a successful Cozumel-based tourism company — our sister organization — known as Fly Cozumel.

For the last two years, Fly Cozumel has offered guests of the island the opportunity to experience the Yucatan Peninsula from the best seat in the house: the sky.

Particularly for cruise ship guests, who dock in the morning and depart again in the late afternoon, the opportunity to reach a place like Chichen Itza from Cozumel in just 45 minutes — about the same time it takes to get across to Playa del Carmen by ferry — means that they can still visit places like Sian Ka’an, Tulum, Holbox or even Chichen Itza and still make it back on time for their seafaring journey.

Since they began operations in 2015 until today, Fly Cozumel prides itself on going above and beyond to satisfy their guests.

The results — and their guests — speak for themselves.

Simply take a look at the Fly Cozumel reviews on TripAdvisor or on their website and you’ll notice something that few others can boast: Fly Cozumel is truly a 5-star operation.

What Will Fly Playa Offer? Tours & Charters

Scenic Cozumel TourEven though it’s sometimes impolite to answer one question with another, it does make sense in this case.

What would you like to see and do?

Unlike other companies who can truly say the sky’s the limit, that’s not an issue for Fly Playa.

Basically, we can make arrangements for you to visit anywhere you’d like to experience in the surrounding Yucatan Peninsula.

In addition, however, we also offer a range of different tour options if you prefer not to customize your own itinerary.

For instance:

Scenic Flights – Our scenic flights include trips to Cozumel Island, an Ultimate Mayan ruins tour to Chichen Itza, Ek Balam, Tulum, and Coba as well as the mesmerizing Sian Kaan Biosphere.

Mayan Ruins – Fly Playa offers you the opportunity to beat the heat and the crowds while visiting Chichen Itza from the air and on a guided tour by land. No bus, no long lines and big crowds, just you, your travel group, and our awesome guide Mr. Turtle.

Charter Flights – Would you like to reach your destination quickly and have breathtaking views? Fly Playa offers special airplane charter services to destinations such as Holbox, Merida, and Chetumal, among others.

Aerial Photography – This one is for those of you who know that images speak more than a 1,o00 selfies, er, words. What’s more, even if you won’t be the one to fly the plane, you’ll be the captain in terms of making sure you get the best shots of those spectacular land and seascapes of Yucatan and the Riviera Maya.

Where is the Playa del Carmen Airport?

Guests of Fly Cozumel at Chichen Itza AirportBecause we’ve already told you where we’re going to go, but we haven’t told you where we leave from…

Playa del Carmen doesn’t have a major transit hub like the neighboring Cancun International Airport, but there is a small airstrip here in town which is just south of Juarez Avenue.

In fact, from the Cozumel ferry terminal it’s just a short ten-minute walk to the airport.

If you plan to go on a Fly Playa tour and would like a pick-up from your resort or AirBnB we’ll be more than happy to arrange that for you, but if you plan to walk just check out this map of the Playa del Carmen airport from Google.

Staying in Tulum, Cozumel, Holbox or Cancun?

Fly Playa can also arrange for flights to/from these destinations as well!

When Do We Depart?

Fly Playa departs daily depending on bookings and availability.

That said, however, you should always plan for your tour to begin early, especially if you plan to visit a place like Chichen Itza.

By going early, you’ll be able to explore this UNESCO World Heritage Site long before the mass of tourists begin to arrive by bus.

Of course, our expert Fly Playa crew can also customize your itinerary to make it work best for you and your travel group.

Oh, and then there’s that little issue of the weather. Sometimes cancellations do happen. If we have to cancel because of the weather conditions we will reschedule your flight to the next convenient time.

If that’s not possible, you’ll get a full refund.

Why Fly with Fly Playa?

Chichen Itza from Playa del Carmen Riviera MayaOne look at our pictures and reviews and the answer is pretty obvious.

However, there are many other reasons why we think you should explore the Riviera Maya and Yucatan Peninsula on a Fly Playa tour.

Here are four more.

Time – Time is of the essence maybe an overused concept, but think about it. You’ve come all this way to enjoy the beach, take in the scenes, and visit some new places. Do you really want to spend up to half your day sitting on a bus? It’s not a bad way to go, but it will take quite a bit of time and you won’t have the views. With Fly Playa, the entire Peninsula is less than one hour away, max.

Service – We combine Mexican hospitality with a unique Fly Playa attention to detail that seeks to wow each and every customer just as much as those spectacular views from the seat of your Cessna. We don’t cut corners or try to just keep you happy. We want you to come as clients and leave as friends.

Safety – This point is at the heart of our operations. It’s what makes everything else possible. As a result, our maintenance and service schedule is an essential part of our company’s identity. We don’t want you to just be comfortable and happy with the views, we want you to be safe each and every step of the way. Like with our service, there’s no cutting corners when it comes to your — and our — safety.

Fun – This is why we do what we do. Having a business is great, but like with anything in life, if you don’t enjoy what you do then what’s the point? Happiness is about pursuing your dreams. We dream of flying, of being up in the air and looking down at this amazing piece of paradise we call home. And like all good things, it’s best when it’s shared with others. We want to share it with you.
